Branded vs Non-Branded

Separate your search traffic into branded keywords (people who already know your brand) and non-branded keywords (people discovering you through SEO).

Why It Matters

Google Search Console mixes all your keywords together. If your brand name drives 60% of your clicks, your overall traffic numbers look great — but they don't tell you how well your SEO content strategy is working. Splitting branded from non-branded lets you measure true organic discovery.

Setting Up Brand Terms

Before you can use the branded filter, you need to define your brand terms:

  1. Go to your site's Settings page (click the gear icon in the top-right of your dashboard)
  2. Find the Branded Terms card
  3. Type a brand term and click + to add it
  4. Add common variations and misspellings (e.g., "quickseo", "quick seo", "quickseo.ai")
  5. Click Save

QuickSEO suggests your domain name as a starting point. Any keyword containing one of your brand terms (case-insensitive) will be classified as branded.

See Brand Terms for more details on configuring brand terms.

Using the Filter

On the Search Analytics page, use the toggle at the top:

  • All — shows all keywords (default)
  • Branded — shows only keywords that contain one of your brand terms
  • Non-branded — shows only keywords that don't contain any brand terms

The filter applies to everything on the page — the chart, keyword table, page table, and all other tabs update to reflect your selection.

What to Look For

  • Non-branded traffic growing? Your content strategy and SEO work is paying off
  • Branded traffic growing? Your marketing, PR, and word-of-mouth are working
  • Non-branded flat while branded grows? Your overall numbers look good, but organic discovery isn't improving
  • High impressions, low CTR on non-branded? Your pages appear in results but titles and descriptions need improvement

No Brand Terms Configured?

If you haven't set up brand terms yet, the filter shows a Configure branded terms link that takes you directly to Settings.
